Being auto-logged out mid post
-
Step 1: Carefully compose a properly documented post. Be sure to document steps already taken and potential relevant details.
Step 2: Preview, cut out post clutter, make it succinct and readable.
Step 3: Repeat step 2 frequently until done.
Step 4: Get auto-logged out, 10 seconds after your last preview and lose an hour of work.
Step 5: Hit back on your browser to confirm you're screwed.
Step 6: Be totally unable to reconcile the incredible good done by the pfSense team with what just happened.

This happens to me on a lot of boards, it seems related to certain forum software. Having blamed all and everybody for 10 years now for this ^)%)$(^%$-why don't they fix this, it is 2013, not 1994 ( ;D) I have since then developed an automated habit of doing ctrl-c before I hit post.

Normally I have activated "always be logged in" but after browser reset I had tried the "let me only 60 minutes logged in" option...
Here seems a problem with forum software which didn't renew the session timer after each page view/call...For this reasons I used since years "Lazarus" for Firefox and it is also available for Chrome and Safari...
It saves your work in a secure way so that hours of work are not for trash ;)

I'm guessing you don't check the "Always stay logged in" option when logging in? The default cookie lifetime is 60 minutes, so if you don't choose "Always stay logged in", or specify "Minutes to stay logged in" when logging in, your session will be invalidated after an hour of inactivity.

@cmb:
[…] your session will be invalidated after an hour of inactivity.
thats the problem… independent of (in-)activity the session expires after 60 minutes per default.
Thats a "nice" feature if your post go into /dev/null when posting (even with several previews before...
