      Hello,

Out of nowhere our portal landing page started to loop after typing the password and hitting the accept button before the issue there was no changes made to the PF.

After reading this post I wonder if the landing page is the issue. http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,68609.0.html

This issue started about 6 months ago and has been happening on and off the staff "resolve" the issue by rebooting the whole machine yesterday I was able to get on the PF while the issue was happening I looked at the logs and did not see anything that stood out. I restarted the captive portal service and that did not resolve the looping I ended up rebooting the whole box and that resolved the issue.

When this issue comes up there are some strange things that happen as in 1 user will loop but another will authenticate and get internet it does not affect all of the users. I even disconnected a user and made them re-authenticate and they were successful even though other users were having issues.

I have upgraded to 2.1 also.

Let me know if I can add anything to this topic such as logs configs or screen shots.

      Thanks Jeremy

Check the portal auth logs, see if you get any errors, especially about session re-use.

This log does not appear very clean how can I clean it up? I attached an screen shot to the thread.

Make sure your DHCP lease time is longer than your CP hard timeout, looks like maybe an IP is getting reassigned to someone else while the old CP session is still active.

                hi jump,

I have the same problem and it started 2 days ago. But this only happens in a particular hotspot. The worst is, any one who wish to authenticate connected to hotspot x gets a looping captive portal but when they connect from another AP, they are able to connect. I also observed that my laptop being passed-through mac now gets the authentication page? which is so odd for me.

so if the dhcp (from the pfbox) is re-assigning an ip that is still in use, is this not a bug on the pf? I am using 2.0.3 . Not ready yet for 2.1

If the trouble is isolated to that one hotspot, it's probably doing NAT or otherwise masking the traffic passing through it. That problem belongs in its own thread though, it's not the same as this.

Yeah, I realized that. I have transferred it here.

I'm on 2.1-Release and also have this problem. Did anyone ever get it resolved?

I've never had captive portal enabled on this box before. I just set it up and if I set a redirect URL in the config then it redirects to that just fine. If I don't set it though, the URL is http://ip.of.box:8000/$PORTAL_REDIRURL$ after I put in the correct voucher and it there is no redirection.
