Disabling NTP Time Server
-
How would one disable the NTP Time Server? I've stopped the service (Services –> NTP) but when I go and try to delete the NTP time server entries under (System --> General Setup) I get the following error message: "The following input errors were detected: A NTP Time Server name may only contain the characters a-z, 0-9, '-' and '.'.". Searched and couldn't find a solution.
Kindly help.

Those entries are for the ntp client not the server. Why are you trying to disable it?

Just seems strange that I cannot remove what I added. Want to disable it as I'm running ESXI and VMware Tools and want it to handle NTP.
Figured I would disable it since it was redundant.

Well if the NTP client is disabled the settings aren't going to do any harm

Be aware of a potential issue: pfSense thinking that time is running backwards as ESXi adjusts the clock.
That's been reported here more than once.
EDIT: but I can't find the ref. Maybe it was reported somewhere else.

That's been reported here more than once.It is even documented. Using this kind of time "sync" is an extremely bad idea. (BTW, HyperV is exact same broken when it comes to time sync)
