Karma, I want..
-
Now you have 3 :(
Someone must be playing with "smite" button
Maybe is better to have "listed" (same as Thanks) the "Name" of who gives "applaud" / "smite" to you. That way people won't be "using" the option just to "play" / "revenge"
-
…this Karma thing is rather old internet meme and never really worked. Don't know what is going on here... ;)
-
Yep pretty much all karma systems are flawed even much more advanced setups.
Perhaps just a cumulative total would be better? I guess it depends what the SMF pluggin can do.Steve
-
Either the system is messed up or someone is messing with me. I was on vacation last week and recall my Karma was +9/-0… Now its +9/-34...
How is that possible? I know I can be rough sometimes but I'm usually helpful.. I've been on this forums probably 6-7 years now... but is it me or are there a lot of tools/trolls lately on the forum?
Would be nice to see who applauds or smite; they would think twice before doing it

You would hope but it's not going to stop someone creating a new user just to multi-smite you.
Better systems have a limited amount of karma you can apply a system that only allows you to give points once you have earned them. Even on well developed systems that are generally recognised as good, such as that used by Slashdot, there are still continuous arguments as to how they could be improved. They are all flawed. ::)Steve

I vote to remove it.. And now I have -35… Only other post was me asking someone a questions to assist...
I'm kinda annoyed now... I could understand if I was having a heated conv with someone but to be at -35 is a freaking joke... I dont care who did it, but would love to see an audit on how often I was smite...
-
It doesn't even show the admins who voted. Honestly, it's better when it's blind/anonymous to avoid retaliation/response (bad or good).
Admins can, however, reset the numbers to whatever they like. ;D
-
Reset karma points eh? Seems like that might bring some bad karma upon you! ;)
Edit: That wasn't me by the way. ::)I see there are several systems available for SMF, karma description mod for example. I agree though, knowing who is smiting you can only lead to retaliation in most cases.
Steve
-
You guys are right, its better not to know because of retaliation.. But good to know that it can be reset by the admins
@stephen i didn't think it was you at all; we have always played nice in the sandbox ::)
-
The funny shit is that I see Jimp having -1 and suddenly he has 0 again….
The intention of the karma system has been tampered with...and therefore it sucks like hell to create a "me is better than you" environment in here...
-
@Cino I helped you out, -1 is better than 0, as 0 is for nerd-wonk-geeks… ;)
-
@chemlud:
-1 is better than 0, as 0 is for nerd-wonk-geeks…
That makes me feel better! ;D
My earlier edit was aimed at JimP. I was attempting to draw a humorous connection between playing god and real life karma coming back to bite you but then when Jim was smitten it looked like I'd done it. :-\
Steve
-
@chemlud lmfao
-
Well there's a difference between karma that was deserved, and karma that someone clicked as a joke or because they were trolling. If it's being abused, then it can/will be reset.
-
Well my new best bud router_wang seems to think smiting me is fun.. As I stated in that thread and the PM that goes unanswered from him. Does not take a brain surgeon to figure out my smite level goes up every time he shows activity. And then nothing when between.
At like -24 now..
-
;D Don't feed the trolls!
It's not the first time someone has made that mistake over the term 'WAN net'. To be fair 'net' and 'subnet' are different terms, I've argued it should be labelled 'WAN subnet' before.

The system is working as designed. If you don't want negative karma, then you should not insult users. Insulting or belittling them does nothing to promote the project or the image of the project.
-
Dude I never insulted you… So you admit it then your just clicking on smite every time you get on the board.. That is not how the system was designed to work, but kids will be kids :rolleyes:
-
@chemlud:
ooops, same thing happend to me. I think it was the Holland man for my soccer post… ???
No it was not me: I only smite Linux people if they are unpolite ;)
-
The only truly useful thing I can think of using it for is so the community can quell spammers without admin intervention. If your account is new and you receive neg feedback you should be blocked from posting until an admin says it's ok - preferably with all your posts automatically hidden and marked for approval. If it's strictly time limited like to the first 12-24 hours of an account's life it should limit abuse to very rare edge cases.
No idea if SMF has such capability.
