Steam Streaming from LAN to a VLAN?
-
Hello,
I'm testing Steam streaming feature, all works fine in same subnet (192.168.1.0/24 for interface LAN).
Now I would like to try on my WIFI which is on a vlan and a different subnet (192.168.100.0/24 for interface VLAN10).
Streaming seems to use port 27036/UDP.
Streaming "Server" IP : 192.168.1.102
Streaming "Client" IP : 192.168.100.100Firewall rules are not restricted (LAN to VLAN10 and VLAN10 to LAN).
What I'm supposed to do now ?
Thanks.

Can you do the basic ping or any other network services across the FW to and from the VLAN from the LAN?

The computers don't see each other
Make sure they are on the same subnet

yes, I have no problem on the same subnet
the point is that I want to stream from VLAN10 to my WLAN (so different subnets)
the only working solution that I was able to find is to bridge VLAN_GAMING and WLAN
now, if only pfsense could support 802.11n it would be super nice ! (54Mb is ok to stream 720p at a medium bitrate, I need 802.11n for 1080p and best bitrate)

Most all firewalls and routers will not forward broadcast or multicast packets. This is why they need to be on the same subnet. The bridge works becuase you are on the same subnet and they ports are acting like a couple of switch ports (with filtering). You could always put 802.11n or AC access point into a gigabit nic on the FW and bridge that. There is always options.

yes I understand that is not a "pfsense"issue, i'm just looking for a working and secure setup with my pfsense box
I was not able to find a solution to forward broadcast traffic so I will use that bridge solution (unless someone can share a better one?)about wlan, yes a dedicated AP is an option but I dont really need/want another device just for something that will be useless as soon as pfense 2.2 is released and I really want my atheros AR9280 to be used at full speed someday ;)
thanks
