      Hi Guys

Im experiencing something very odd and Im not too sure why.

Im running pfsense 2.2.1 as a virtual machine on my server.  Server is running ubuntu server and KVM to run the virtual image.  pfsense is working fine and everything works apart from captive portal.

pfsense has both squid and lightsquid installed and working fine.  I can visit any website and the information is collated in lightsquid ok.

I then enabled captive portal.  when I did this, internet traffic ceases completely.  the second I disable "CP" then the internet works perfectly fine.

I wanted to check to see if I had done anything wrong, so I created a test environment on a laptop running the exact same software (Ubuntu/kvm) with the same settings and it worked straight away.  I have also created another test environment (pc running vsphere with pfsense as a virtual image) and it doesn't work here either.

does anyone have any ideas as to what can cause this?

logs aren't showing anything to suggest an issue. log is attached

I've also made a crappy diagram of how the network is configured.  my group IT department requested the external DHCP server in case you ask

thanks in advance for your help.
      Dave

        Hi,

        I propose a test.

        Remove your "DHCP server".
Active DHCP that should serve your lan : pfSense  ;)

Before using Squid etc: read other threads about it - then ditch it (this really helps to make thing work)..

No "help me" PM's please. Use the forum, the community will thank you.
Edit : and where are the logs ??

Whats your DNS server? Does your pfSense works as a forwarder of do use some external DNS?
