Alternatives to BandwidthD
-
As BandwidthD seems borked on 2.2.1 embeded https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=90830.0
can anyone recommend another package that does the same? I just need to monitor LANIP's for abusive downloading.
Alternatively can I donate to the maintainer to get it fixed?

I got the tip of setting up untangle in line With Your pfsense, working as a transparent bridge.
Here you can log any violation you set up, or even Block it.
Just don't do like I did and Connect the untangle machine on the same Interface on the same vswitch (if you are using vmware/ESXi)
Untangle is a firewall distro on its own using different packages of it own to monitor or filter the traffic. It also gives rather neat reports.
Other than that you could use squid and lightsquid. None of these options can give you HTTPS traffic logs, unless you set up HTTPS Proxy and modify the LAN machines to use it.

Darkstat seems to do what I want and appears stable - not as nice as bandwidthd tho :(

I never found that while searching for packages.
Untangle will give you Nice colourful reports and the ability to actually Block unwanted traffic if thats what you're after. You will also get reports per IP on the network.

If you're a Gold Subscriber, I'm giving a presentation today (in about an hour) about all of the bandwidth monitoring packages and their capabilities. There are plenty of alternatives, but they may not have quite the same information available.
