Home with 2 floor, wireless user in roaming
-
Hi,
I have a pfsense box that runs in an alix board with an atheros card that provide my two wireless network (secure and open guest).I'd like to add another pfsense box on the second floor to allow users to use the same wireless networks that I have setup in the main box through a second box that is connected via Ethernet on the main box.
Something like caching the user mac address.
Is possible?
Thanks you :)

Setting up a second AP is not a problem if you can run ethernet to it.. You cannot extend your existing wireless network, you will need to create a third wireless network/SSID for the second floor. Basically you set the second floor boxes WAN port to receive DHCP leases from your main pfsense. You can allow users from second floor access to first floor computers. Wireless roaming from 2nd floor to first floor could be a problem…

Yes, it's possible. Ditch the wireless cards and get a couple Ubiquiti UAP, UAP-Pro, or UAP-AC access points.

The problem is that is quite expensive and it appear to not work on Linux. Is right? Thanks you. :)

What does Linux have to do with anything?
The point is when you're using Access Points, they work with anything that talks ethernet.

Best way to setup for multiple APs, If you want more than 1 access point(s), Setup access point where it should close to radius so you should have no problem with same SSID and security but channel must separate like 1, 6, and 11 for best way to setup and also Ethernet must run through each access point(s) because they communicate each other so if device going to second access point, it should inform from first access point to second access point to associating second access point.
It work with my cisco aironet so it should have no problem with roaming around.
