ESXI 3.5 U5, HP DL380 G3 and Pfsense 2.2.2
-
Hi,
I want to install pfsense 2.2.2 x86 on esxi 3.5 vmware latest update u5, on server hp dl380 g3, someone know for sure if it's fully compatible ? or someone tried this…
Thanks

VMWare says no. You need to be running at least ESXi 5.5 U2 to be compatible with the base FreeBSD 10.1 OS.

Gawd 3.5 and a gl380 g3 - that is some old shit ;)

Yes i knows that server is old, but it is what i have at this moment, i want to have pfsense install on some virtual box, and another os(s), because of that i looked for a solution like esxi,
I will run pfsense on vbox(oracle) under windows server 2008(i've tryed under server 2003 and worked without problems, has to work also under 2008).
Thanks for help(i will not bother to try with esxi)

Although it's not officially supported, you could probably install ESXi 5.5U2 on your G3 just fine.

I may be mistaken, but I think ESXi 5.5 is x64 only.
From what I read the old DL380 G3 is a 32-bit box. That will severely limit what you'll be able to run on it.Gawd 3.5 and a gl380 g3 - that is some old shit ;)
They were a nice machine in their day. 2004 or so. Still newer than the PE 2400 I got rid of a couple of years ago.

Yes it's x86 only, i will run pfsense under win server 2008 with hyper v or virtual box, with virtual bpx it's 100% working, with hyper v i will try.
I want to have on virtualization: pfsense as firewall, centos for hosting and another os for datacenter, i have 2 network interfaces on server, one will be pfsense wan, another interface as lan(for ext connections) also centos and the other os(for datacenter) conected to firewall(pfsense) through virtual interfaces/virtual switch, if it will be posible. Thanks for help.

Is your hypervisor x86 or x64? Are you running i386 or amd64 version of 2.2.2?

freebsd 10.1 is not supported on anything below 5.5u2 from my understanding - while it may work, its not a supported combination. I would not suggest it. And if you have any problems your going to have little help. Make sure you mention in any sort of questions that your running on an unsupported platform.

Well, ESXI isn't the only thing in the world. There is Xen, and KVM, which both work perfectly fine. XenServer is free nowdays, and KVM is easy with Proxmox, which also happens to be free.
