Pfsense deleting squidGuard for no apparent reason?
-
I am running a box with pfsense and squidGuard. Would there be any reason in which pfsense would remove the squidGuard daemon? Would pfsense delete the squidGuard program entirely if it could not find a pkg file specified in an xml file? I simply cannot fathom how squid simply disappeared on my box other than pfsense somehow got rid of it.

I am running a box with pfsense and squidGuard.
How do you do this? NANOBSD on USB Stick, full install on a mSATA or SSD/HDD?
Which version do you running? pfSense 2.1.5 & SquidGuard x.x.xWould there be any reason in which pfsense would remove the squidGuard daemon?
Are there not log files you could have a look inside?

What were you doing before pfSense "deleted squidGuard for o apparent reason"?

You're using squid and squidGuard interchangeably when they're two different things. Squid is the caching web proxy service and squidGuard is the URL filter helper program.
No, pfSense won't delete any packages unless you tell it to.
What is the actual problem you are having?

I figured out what happened. So on reboot during the package sync simply because pfsense cannot find a package it decides to remove the entire program without creating a backup or checking whether it can be reinstalled.
here is the boot log.Syncing packages: snortٻ snort-whitelist SnortAdvanced stunnel squid HAVP antivirus squidGuard Beginning package installation for ... Sigh. No, pfSense does not reinstall package on reboots. It reinstalls them on upgrade. It clearly failed with the squidGuard junk.
