Slow WAN inside Proxmox
-
Hi,
a few weeks ago i started setting up my firs pfsense router for our company.
I started with a kvm inside a Proxmox host, did this a few times before for different systems (debian web-/mail-/etc.server, ubuntu desktop, windows server) and never had big problems.
The setup looked correct and all VLANs could "speak" with the switches and so on behind the host.I only had a problem with my connection speed that i could only fix by setting up a physical pfsense. The physical box is also the one we are using atm but i'd like to have a virtual backup so i can change to kvm pfsense.
Does anyone know about something like this and know where the problem could be?
with my virtual pfsense my best speed was around 300/300mbit, with my hardware pfsense its around 950/950 all the time. We have gigabit in up- and download.I'm thankfull for every help, even if i don't know when i got the time to try a new setup.

What are you using for your VM NIC? Virtio? E1000? I always had excellent luck with virtio. One thing I found out when I use to virtualize with Proxmox was that if the host had an Intel NIC and you set the VM to use Realtek or something like that, then errors would be thrown and the connection would drastically slow down. Virtio however worked really well!

Hi there.
We are using PVE 3.4 in several clients, and our WAN speeds in are always between 890 and 960 with E1000 interfaces on the VMs and Intel NICs.

i use Proxmox v3.4 and Pfsense 2.2.3
for NIC i use Virtio and in pfsense setting
under System –>Advanced -->Networking i tick Disable hardware checksum offload
and it work fine for me.
I don't have slow wan anymore.![pfsense setting.PNG](/public/imported_attachments/1/pfsense setting.PNG)
