SMTP from outside LAN doesn't work



  • I have IMAP and SMTP working perfectly inside my LAN even for internet mail, but when I am at home or away, I can receive emails, but I can't send. Here are the firewall rules I have in place. 172.30.0.18 is my Exchange box.

  • Right, what do the logs on your Exchange host/mail client show?

    My 0.02 <currency>bet would be that you've not configured Exchange/your mail client correctly to allow for relaying outside of the local LAN.  Not having touched Exchange since the days of Exchange 5.5 though I am only guessing ;)</currency>



  • I checked the relays and made sure my server's ip address was in there and it was. I enabled logging and will come back to it when I get a chance. Thanks for the input. I guess you bring up the valid point that it might not be the firewall. Do I have all the rules I need setup properly?



  • If you also configured port forwarding, yes (hint, if you haven't delete the rules and then just configure the port forwarding, that will also create the correct, matching, firewall rules).
