Minecraft saying "java.net connectexception connection refused"
-
Hi Everyone,
I'm new to PF Sense and am learning the in's and out's of setting up the firewall here at my new job.
I have a member here who said he's trying to play minecraft off the minecraft servers. He keeps getting the error "java.net connectexception connection refused"
This is my first time making a rule so assume I could have done this wrong… but it seems right.
I logged into PF Sense, went to firewall -> aliases. Then I made an alias for the Minecraft port numbers 54033 and 25565 which is what I got when googling WAN ports that minecraft uses.
Then I went into Rules and made a floating rule w/ the action: pass and then source/destination are both "any". Finally, the source port range is set to the alias I mentioned above for the port #'s of minecraft.
See attached image for how it's setup.
I saved and it didn't work. Can anyone let me know what I'm missing here? From reading other forums, I thought minecraft would pass by default.

So he wants to play on a server and gets disconnected? pfsense shouldnt have this issue, games worked fine behind it for me. Have you tried a different minecraft server?

All protocols are allowed out from the LAN to the WAN, so there should be no need to add specific ports. The likely cause is almost certainly either his client or the target server. Apart from trying other Minecraft servers, has he tried running this behind a different firewall elsewhere?

There is nothing in the default pfSense config that will prevent Minecraft from working from the LAN out.
