Squid3+SquidGuard= The system returned: (60) Operation timed out
-
Hello
I have installed squid3 with squidguard with the hope to do some basic url filtering.
Squid3 works fine on its own but when i enable squidguard i get the following error on my browser:The system returned: (60) Operation timed out
This error comes from the proxy itself as you can see from the attached screenshot.
Any ideas on what i could be doing wrong ?Thanks

It's complaining about a timeout when trying to fetch http://172.16.84.190/sgerror.php. Is this local server and URL accessible from pfSense? What happens if you fetch it from one of your LAN clients?

I have this PfSense over at my parents house and was trying to install squidguard to block ads because they keep on clicking on everything single ad there is and end up with malware on their computers lol
Now i am trying to solve the issue remotely having access only to PfSense (SSH and GUI) i don't have access on a local machine but they tell that they see the same error.
When i disable squidguard everything works fine
Thanks

UPDATE:
I have enabled transparent proxy on the squid setting for wan and lan and the error message went away.
Browsing works fine now, but squidguard filtering does noting when i try to block something. -
There isn't a whole lot the volunteers here can do for you if you won't answer the questions asked of you.
Transparent squid won't filter HTTPS unless you install a certificate on every system that is on your LAN. This is usually a huge PITA so it's better to use explicit mode (non-transparent) and forget about certs. If you only have the two parents to worry about then it's a simple matter of configuring their computers to use the proxy. If you have random people & devices wandering in and out then you should configure WPAD to allow their devices to find the proxy on their own.

If your still having trouble with SquidGuard you could try pfBlockerNG and use its DNSBL for url filtering.

I have configured the Computers with the Certs from PfSense.

You should have started your own new thread for this. What is the problem you are having? You described what you have but nothing more.
