Set up DMZ for Splatoon on WiiU
-
So, apparently Splatoon is really picky about the interface required if you want to play multiplayer, and several other places have said to put the WiiU in a DMZ, but not HOW to do so.
Anyone have some advice about this?
Thanks -
They don't mean DMZ as a traditional isolated segment (the real definition of a DMZ) they mean to set it up like SOHO gear means "DMZ" as in forward all ports in, which is not required.
All you really need to make the Wii U happy is to setup a rule in outbound NAT using hybrid or manual mode to do static port NAT on outbound traffic from the Wii U.
UPnP enabled will take care of the inbound stuff. -
That's a great game!

I believe I have only outbound NAT static without UPnP enabled. But have not checked since the last config changes. Is UPnP necessary for sure? See

I have a network segment on its own interface just for gaming, and have only static NAT configured for it - no UnPNP. Two WII-U consoles can splat with no issues.
The 3DS games that set the packet TTL to 3 hops are the ones that are killing me.
