After a fresh reboot the number of processes graph from RRD:system, shows about 170 processes. In a period of 6 hours, 25 processes are added. The graph shows a constant increase per hour. On 2.2.5 I never saw this.

If I need to give more information, please let me know.

Tell us what the processes are that are appearing.

        ps -auxww

or something similar to list them all.

As the Greek philosopher Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle."

See below. Strange thing is de number of processes is still increasing (if I look at de RRD:System graph), but below overview does not seem to represent that.

There is some problem with dpinger - all those dpinger processes are doing the same thing, monitoring WAN_PPPOE.
I looked on my test system and I have 3 dpinger processes monitoring my WAN.

So there is a problem on restarts of dpinger - somehow the old dpinger is not getting stopped. Probably happening when the WAN goes down and up or?

            I logged a bug in Redmine https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/5686

As the Greek philosopher Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle."

I've pushed a fix. This fix won't kill all those process already running but will avoid multiple process for the same target to be called. If you upgrade the system and reboot (when new snapshot is available) it's going to be OK. If you decide to gitsync, dpinger processes will need to be killed manually

Great. Will upgrade and reboot after new snapshot is available and report back the results.

Still running version: built on Tue Dec 22 01:44:26 CST 2015 and waiting for new snapshot to arrive in de UI. The UI only gives me an update to  2.3.a.20151223.0535, but that is not recent enough to test above fix.

Just looked at snapshot site and there are more recent snapshots available. Why does the UI not presents me the most recent snapshot?

Of cource I can manual (SSH) the update, but is there a reason the UI updater gives an 'old' snapshot?

Package signing changes have apparently impacted pkg updates. You can gitsync master to get that fix in the mean time.

Until now I did only snapshot update UI/console and feel unsecure about gitsync master.

Willing to try, but never used it before. I understand gitsync only update PHP code and not binary. Is that enough?

That's enough in this case, it was a PHP code change. It's good to be cautious with gitsync, as sometimes changes in the PHP require binary changes as well, and unless you're watching the change lists closely you won't know the difference. But in this case you're safe, you're on a new enough snapshot that there aren't any relevant binary changes you need to be concerned about.

Executed pfSsh.php playback gitsync master and rebooted. Will report tomorrow about number of processes.

After update number of processes is constant ;)
Also ps -auxww gives me one instance.
