1U (preferred) Hardware recommendations

Hello Everyone,
I have been turned to pfSense recently as my consumer level router has pretty much had issues keeping up even with 3rd party firmware (ASUS merlin). I have always enjoyed messing around with network stuff so I am not sure why I honestly haven't done this sooner.
Here is the environment/needs;
3 users total - 1 super heavy user, 2 moderate
VPN for at least 2 clients
100MB WAN service
30+ devices
Ad blocking and content filtering.I looked at the hardware pfSense has available however it seems very overpriced for can be sources in mini-itx builds and would allow for upgrading to some degree in the future. I looked at the SG4860 which appears would fit my needs however I can find the nearly exact same hardware minus rack mount for $250 less. I could easily fabricate rack mount ears with scrap I have sitting in my metal shop. I really want to support pfSense but at a $250 difference that is just to much for me personally.
Suggestions are appreciated.

Its not overpriced because they have combined the best from two worlds!
- The three miniPCIe & SIM slots from the PC Engines APU boards
- The Intel Atom C2000 SoC series called rangeley!
And these boards are not able to find in the wild! You can have not three miniPCIe slots
for modem, mSATA and WiFi cards at the other boards!I looked at the SG4860 which appears would fit my needs however I can find the nearly exact same hardware minus rack mount for $250 less.
- Never! Please tell me where are there the three miniPCIe slots!?
- Where is the pre-tuned pfSense version for this device?
- Where you get some support from the pfSense team for your device?
- Where is the intel QuickAssist support for your device when it comes into the pfSense code?
(I am pretty sure that the SG-xxxx units will be the first hardware that is supported)
I could easily fabricate rack mount ears with scrap I have sitting in my metal shop.
Then go and buy what you want to go with, and please ask nothing about, because if you need not
the three miniPCIe slots, not the other things, go and buy your favorite hardware and install pfSense
on it, but please don´t ask why this hardware is so high in price! Its because you will be supporting
this project that is OpenSource based and free of charge but not free from cost!I really want to support pfSense but at a $250 difference that is just to much for me personally.
Please link to your hardware that is so cheap in price.

And for that $250 you get the current version installed and tested, plus support (not just free forum support). It is your money, so you need to decide if those extras are worth the cost.
For me, it was an easy decision, but I felt I was getting my money's worth.

First thank you for taking the time to reply to my thread, secondly I really didn't appreciate the condescending tone your entire post oozed with. I could be reading into it however you came off incredibly crass.
The hardware which I am referring to is in the link below;
http://store.netgate.com/ADI/RCC-VE-4860.aspxSame motherboard and functionality from what I can tell in terms of hardware (minus wifi as the 4860 1U page does not state it comes with it).

Thank you for that insight. I wouldn't mind purchasing the SG to support the pfSense project in the least, I would actually prefer that however I don't want to spend from what it appears to be a $250 increase for rack mount and support/pre-install. I could be missing something here which does indeed explain the cost but with no way to waive that support or additional cost it seems odd to me.
If the SG unit was let's say even $580 minus support and pre-install I wouldn't hesitate to purchase.

:o
Without giving away a really funny fact- It really is about helping to support the project. After all the man power isn't free. Id say go with the Netgate link and consider becoming a gold supporter. The support really helps out.

Wonderful idea, I didn't even consider that as an option, mainly because I didn't see the subscription options. That actually sounds ideal with the what appears to be cheaper/same hardware and performing a 1 year gold I still come out ahead when compared to the SG-4860 1U currently at $800.
Really appreciate it.

This is owed to the circumstance that the english and american language are not my mother spoken language
is, and there fore I have not so good english language skills and very often peoples are responding the they
mean the entire tone is rude or not well formed. I don´t know their German language skills but I am pretty
sure they will also not even hit the point they want in my language.The hardware which I am referring to is in the link below;
http://store.netgate.com/ADI/RCC-VE-4860.aspxThe ADI and pfSense store hardware are fully identically and it can be told it is like from the same house.
And this is an open secret for the most peoples here in the forum. One is sold with CentOS and one is sold
with pfSense to support the entire project.Same motherboard and functionality from what I can tell in terms of hardware (minus wifi as the 4860 1U page does not state it comes with it).
If you have a rack, you must not mount this SG-4860 box, you should also be able to insert it on a shelf inside
I really think there are not problems with this.
