This might be a silly question, but when I check the traffic graphs for my WAN interface and my Private Internet Access interface, they seem to match.  Shouldn't traffic carried over the VPN interface not show up on the WAN interface?  Or am I misunderstanding this?

Your misunderstanding.  Unless your VPN's have another path between each other.  WAN traffic tabulates whether its encrypted or not.

If it's going in/out of WAN it is tabulated on the WAN graphs. To WAN, OpenVPN is just another UDP data stream.

I get it now.  I am relatively new to all of this and I am learning as I go along.
