WebUI extremely sluggish or entirely inaccessible when WAN is connected
-
I recently installed pfsense on one of these APU boards: http://www.pcengines.ch/apu2c4.htm
Installation went smoothly, however the box would not get a DHCP address from my ISP on the WAN interface, but after mucking with it and eventually just unplugging the modem for a time and coming back to it, the box was able to get a DHCP address and I had Internet connectivity…
...for a very short time. Immediately after getting the WAN IP address (via serial console) the webUI became entirely inaccessible from the LAN. All pages just time out. Further, all systems on the network report no network connectivity, yet I can load web pages on all those systems. Interestingly, some times the pages fail to load with a DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET error from Chrome, however they automatically reload in the browser and the page loads normally a few seconds later.
While on the serial console, the box will report no WAN IP address about 30 seconds after obtaining one as well.
Any ideas as to what is going on?
EDIT: Forgot to mention, if I bring the WAN itnerface down, I gain access to the webUI from the LAN again however it is extremely slow - 5 minutes to load the login page.

Interestingly, when I removed Google's DNS servers from pfsense (so just 127.0.0.1 and my ISPs DNS servers are in use), I stopped getting the DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET errors and the webUI is no longer sluggish.

I hate to bring this thread back but um having the same issue. Google dns is not in my list either. Did this ever come back to happen again?

Have you tried to turn on device polling just to see if that does something? It's one legitimate use case for polling, without it an overloaded pfSense will have a severely sluggish web ui.
In other words, if you hook up the pfSense up to the WAN and someone is DDOS:ing it, it will no doubt cause it to go into shock… worth a shot. Though I suppose the dashboard would tell you if someone was hammering away at the unit via your network connection.
