        I was writing about this! I like pfSense a little more with this detail. And same Q. that @heper made; we miss something?

        pfSense:
        ASRock -> Wolfdale1333-D667 (2GB TeamElite Ram)
        Marvell 88SA8040 Sata to CF(Sandisk 4GB) Controller
        NIC's: RTL8100E (Internal ) and Intel® PRO/1000 PT Dual (Intel 82571GB)

          Nothing to be scared/worried about, the changes are cosmetic. We've been referring to the version on pfsense.org as the "community" edition for quite some time now. The version that is on the hardware we sell has some differences, as has been mentioned in many threads already, and we needed a way to better distinguish which version people were running, downloading, and so on as it was a bit confusing calling both variations "pfSense" when we've also been calling them "community" and "factory" and it's not easy for a user to tell which they've ended up running. There's a blog post coming about it, I believe, but it's not up yet.

            I have your hardware. But am now running the 2.3 beta. What are those differences?

              There will be a 2.3 version available for our hardware shortly, but it's not yet publicly available. When the time comes, you can switch over to that version. The exact procedure hasn't been nailed down yet, given the differences with pkg it may be trickier than it was with previous versions. Worst case it might involve logging in and downloading the factory version and then reinstalling.

                Would I be correct in assuming that the upgrade procedure on remote units would still work(not going to need to be physically at the unit)?  I currently have one pfSense hardware appliance(SG-8860) in our main office, and just had 2 more(SG-2220 and SG-2440) arrive for our satellite offices, is it worth configuring them with 2.2.6, or just store them until 2.3 comes out?

                  Going from 2.2.x to 2.3 will work fine on there, no need to hold back. The only tricky question is going from a 2.3 CE snapshot to 2.3 factory

                      Nothing changes there, you might be thinking of some other project "community edition" version that killed features, not happening here. It's no different than the differences that are there now on 2.2.x that we ship on our factory hardware vs what you can download. The only real difference is there is a visual indicator of which version is installed and the filenames more clearly reflect what you're getting.

                      The differences in the factory version have been discussed in detail elsewhere, it's tuned for our hardware, has a couple extra things like a VPC connection wizard, iOS IPsec profile export and such. Search around if you want a more complete list.

                        Considering this comes up so often it would be nice to be able to refer to a sticky thread that summarizes all of the differences. Heck, it might help you guys sell more factory/pfSense hardware. I think a lot of people believe they can just buy nearly identical hardware and don't realize there are software optimizations.
