    Tried to upgrade my 2.2.6-RELEASE (i386) to 2.3-RC but failed with the above message.

    Used the link/image:
    http://files.atx.pfsense.org/mirror/updates/pfSense-CE-2.3-RC-2g-i386-nanobsd-vga-upgrade.img.gz

    for the console ugrade (SSH => 13 => 1).

    And via GUI: System => Firmware => Manual Update
    for the locally downloaded version of the file.

    Is there any upgrade log I can provide?

      Diag > NanoBSD, there's a button to show the upgrade log there.

      Are you sure that is the correct size and type of NanoBSD image to match what you had on there already? What does it show on the Dashboard as your NanoBSD size?

        There is no Diag > NanoBSD for my installation.

        I'm not quite sure if its a nano installation. Is there a way I can check? (I'm new to pfSense)

          If you don't have a Diag>NanoBSD menu, it's not nanobsd. So you're using the wrong update file, get the full update tgz instead.

            My fault. Worked using the correct image.

            Thanks!
