Talktalk BT Openreach WAN PPPOE Problem
-
Hey guys,
Sorry for being 'that guy' with a first post being a question but I'm struggling.
I've configured pfSense 2.3-Release(i386) on my WG X750E. I've upgraded the CPU to a 1.7 Dolthan and stuck 2gb of RAM in there.
Now post installation I've configured sk0 as my WAN port and set it as PPPOE. Username I've pit down as bthomehub@bt broadband.com and the password as password.
From what I've read this should suffice. As the connection doesn't depend on credentials as standard.
I've set the MTU to 1492 as also mentioned elsewhere but I'm not getting a connection.
In the logs I'm seeing a lot of PPP information but what stands out is [wan_link0] MESG: CHAP authentication failure, unit 22046.
The modem I'm using is the BT Supplied VDSL modem
Model: ECI Telecom LTD
Item Code: 061513
ECI Model: 8-Focus V-2FUb/r Rev.BI'm configured with RJ11 from the VDSL socket into the DSL port on the modem then from its LAN1 port into the SK0 port on my WG pf box which is configured as WAN.
I've read all of the related topics and tried various changes (hence the MTU change etc.) But still no dice. Anybody got a suggestion or know where I'm going wrong?

Solved!
I set the WAN to run in DHCP configuration type and that instantly got me an IP and worked… weird how all the guides say you have to use PPPOE... sorry for the pointless post but hopefully it'll help somebody else in future.

Do you have a public or private IP address on your WAN interface now?
It is usual to have to configure the ADSL router to change from routing to bridging before PPPoE will work.

I now have a public IP on the WAN interface, apparently these devices are configured in 'DHCP Passthrough' mode so it acts as a modem and then passes the connection specific configuration (IP, GW, DNS etc) through to the 'cable' router via DHCP.
