@bingo600 What promise did they go back on? Every company is subject to the laws of the nation in which they operate.

Yeah not really seeing what "promise" they broke?

"This means all user data is protected by strict Swiss privacy laws."

Doesn't mean they can not provide your IP to proper authorities when required.. Pretty much says so in their privacy statement

"If you are breaking Swiss law, ProtonMail can be legally compelled to log your IP address as part of a Swiss criminal investigation. "

          I guess you're both right.
Makes sense that there's some kind of rules they have to follow.

My mistake was that, i had the impression that they promised "No Logs" at all.

If you find my answer useful - Please give the post a šŸ‘ - "thumbs up"

that they promised "No Logs" at all.

Yeah, right, they disabled the possibility to find out what and when happened in case of an important security breach.
As the authors that took advantage of the security issue, they have to find the source of the issue knowing only one thing : it happened.
Not having logs ? I don't think so. No publishing them, ok, that one I'll believe.

No "help me" PM's please. Use the forum, the community will thank you.
Edit : and where are the logs ??

This is not really possible - while you might not retain logs.. You always have a state table, etc. Their nat table can show who is connected to to what at any given time.. This has to be there for them to work..

If anyone thinks that some vpn is going to protect them when the appropriate authorities get involved - they are deluding themselves ;) hehehe

@bingo600 Promises from a corporation are meaningless. If you need that level of privacy, use Tor. Proton even said that if the end-user had accessed their protonmail account from a VPN, they wouldn't be able to give the cops anything.

I'm more interested in why the police in France are using these means to go after a group who organize youth to protest environmental issues. That seems a little heavy-handed.

The IP of the VPN. They will knock on the door of VPN supplier.
Useless, of course, as these guys do the same thing : "no logs" 😊

A raspberry pi, hidden above a ceiling or even buried outside (can be battery supplied), connected to a random public hotspot 😁

I gloomily came to the ironic conclusion that if you take a highly intelligent person and give them the best possible, elite education, then you will most likely wind up with an academic who is completely impervious to reality.
