Easiest way to change from 2.3.1 snapshot to 2.3.1 release?
-
I switched the update settings from Development Snapshots to Stable but going to System Update shows that it will update to 2.3.2a… I saw the sticky about running pkg update -f but that didn't help.
Current Base System 2.3.1.a.20160513.0941
Latest Base System 2.3.2.a.20160518.0438I initially was on 2.3. I then went to 2.3_1. I then went to the Development Snapshots. I am trying to get back to Stable now for 2.3.1.
-
Set Stable in System > Upgrades, Update Settings
Check for an update again. -
I did that per my original post. Still shows the same.
EDIT: Oh pkg upgrade -f (not pkg update -f) !!! thanks I will try that.
EDIT2: Didn't help. I used pkg upgrade -f but now it looks like it is updating me to 2.3.2a . Oops… so that wasn't it.
-
It's still going to show 2.3.2a if you were on development to start. But as long as you're set back to stable, go ahead and upgrade where it shows 2.3.2 as the updated version. That'll actually get you to 2.3.1 release.
-
Setting System | Update | Update Settings to stable and using option 13) Update from console via ssh/serial did it just fine.
edit: console shows the update path from 2.3.1.a… to 2.3.1 to ease your mind. And you still get the choice (y/N) to apply the update.

Thanks for the help guys. It looks like cmb is saying it will update us to Stable. I will find out in about 15 minutes but it sounds like I will be set after the pkg upgrade -f .
I see in the console while it is upgrading the follow info. How do I know if I need that file any more or is just something that should be ignored?
[143/151] Reinstalling ataidle-2.7.2... [143/151] Extracting ataidle-2.7.2: 100% [144/151] Reinstalling pkg-1.7.2_2... You may need to manually remove /usr/local/etc/pkg.conf if it is no longer needed.

I used from console:
pfSense-upgrade -d
and I succesfully got 2.3.1 update.
-
It put me on 2.3.2 development :(.

FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-p2Update now shows that I can go to 2.3.1 release though so good news. I will do another update now and see if that happens.
System Update page shows:

Latest Base System 2.3.1Just did the update and rebooting now. Output from upgrade which only downgraded 2 p ackages it looks like.

FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-p3System Update still shows the same info after the update.
Current Base System 2.3.2.a.20160518.0438
Latest Base System 2.3.1Maybe I need to do a pkg upgrade -f now a second time now that it does show I will go to 2.3.1. I will try that.

Just did the second pkg upgrade -f a second time. Lots of stuff was updated again like the first upgrade -f and now it is on 2.3.1 release.
2.3.1-RELEASE (i386)
built on Tue May 17 18:46:37 CDT 2016
FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-p3So I had to do the following…
- Change to Stable in GUI and save.
- pkg upgrade -f (which brought me to 2.3.2a development from 2.3.1a development)
- GUI update (This was probably not necessary as it didn't update me to 2.3.1 even though it showed that it would)
- pkg upgrade -f (which brought me to 2.3.1 release)
Output from the last pkg upgrade -f

However, if you want to run Suricata in Inline IPS Mode in divert(4) mode, add to /etc/rc.conf: suricata_enable="YES" suricata_divertport="8000" NOTE: Suricata won't start in IDS mode without an interface configured. Therefore if you omit suricata_interface from rc.conf, FreeBSD's rc.d/suricata will automatically try to start Suricata in IPS Mode (on divert port 8000, by default). Alternatively, if you want to run Suricata in Inline IPS Mode in high-speed netmap(4) mode, add to /etc/rc.conf: suricata_enable="YES" suricata_netmap="YES" NOTE: Suricata requires additional interface settings in the configuration file to run in netmap(4) mode. It worked fine for me without any command line stuff.
- System / Update / Udate Settings - change branch to Stable (Default) and save.
- System / Update, it shows Latest Base System 2.3.2.a…
- Press Confirm anyway
It switches pkg repo all by itself, installs the necessary new stuff, reboots and you are on 2.3.1-RELEASE
Worked for me on an Alix 2D13 32-bit nanoBSD and on a full install in a VM.

It really works! Thanks, Phil!
