Gateway monitor / Loss
-
Hi guys,
On the Gateways monitor widget you see your gateway. Recently I started having some instability on my connection and I often see some Loss value in this field.
This value oscillates a bit. It can be 0.0% in one minute, then a few seconds later it goes up to 4%, then it drops to 2%, and so on.
If I run an mtr test, the Loss % is respective to the total packets that have been sent in the period. For example if the test has run for a while and I have a total of 100 000 packets, 5% is an average meaning in that total I've lost 5 000 packets.
How is this calculated in pfSense? I'm sure it's not the total of the packets sent, otherwise it wouldn't drop to 1% or 0.0% in just a few seconds. So what is the period which the Loss indicator considers to give this value? Is a 1 minute average, 30 second average, or what?
Thanks!

@maverickws In System/Routing/Gateways edit your gateway and the settings are under Advanced. "Time period in milliseconds over which results are averaged. Default is 60000." Is that what you're looking for?
