Can anyone explain the process of upgrading from pfsense release 11.3 to 2.5.2? Or is there a document on how to?

      Best Regards

Not familiar with an "11.3" release. Is there perhaps a typo in that version number you provided?

For very old versions of pfSense, it is usually better to export the config (save it off to another location), then download a current install image and install fresh. As part of that installation step you can import your old config. But just beware that if it is really, really old, some things may not come over cleanly.

Here is a link to the installation docs describing the config import process: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/backup/restore-during-install.html.

Here is a link to the open-source pfSense images. These are for third-party platforms (meaning not a Netgate appliance): https://www.pfsense.org/download/.

If you have a Netgate appliance, then you will want to run pfSense+ on that hardware. You must request those images directly from Netgate here: https://go.netgate.com/. If you have Netgate hardware, there is no charge for opening a request for the latest firmware for your box. Just sign up and create a ticket. You will have to provide either the Netgate ID or the serial number from the appliance.

@hoserman Are you looking at the FreeBSD version? 2.4.5 was FreeBSD 11.3 I think.

Overall there is an upgrade guide which has some version specific notes.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.
