      Modem: Arris SB6183
      Router: netgate SG-6100
      Switches: two Ruckus ICX 7150-C12P (s1, s2)

Doing nothing special on these. Each switch has several vlans for guest, work, IoT and personal devices. Just wondering which physical configuration is better. I don't need the tagged vlans to span across the switches.

Does the switches in top config each have their own link to the 6100 , plus being "interlinked" ?
That's a good design if you have the ports & cables
Remember to use RSTP / STP

        Less preferred
The lowest config will have these parms

        Performance.
All traffic to sw2 will pass sw1

        Redundancy
Will render sw2 unusable if sw1 dies.
But so will router or modem outage

That said , I have several places in my home net , where i'm "tailing" a switch off another switch. That's primarily due to lack of cables , or cost of drawing extra.

@bingo600 in the top config, which I'm using now, s1 and s2 are connected using their uplink port (c1 on each switch in this case) to the SG-6100 in the LAN1 and LAN2 ports respectively, and that's it. They are not connected to each other whatsoever.

You said the Vlans didn't need to span between switches , so there is no need for them to be "interconnected".

I'd go for the each switch has own connection to 6100 if possible.

I would also connect each switch to the 6100 separately if they are physically located to allow that.

The only time you might not want that is if you regularly have multiple Gbps traffic between hosts on different switches where the 6100 would have to push that.

Those switches look to have 10G ports and the 6100 has two 10G ports. If you're not using them already I'd use those.
