Moving from house to apartment with Google Fiber: pfSense?

Hi, I’ve been using pfSense in my home network via my SG3100 for a few years and love it.
Now, I’m downsizing to an apartment with 1GB Google Fiber, which is something I know very little about.
I’ll have my NAS with Plex hardwired, but TVs and XBOX will be wifi from the hub. It’s a much smaller and less complicated setup than my home.
Here’s the fundamental question, am I getting best performance from the Google router, or am I still better with pfSense? I’ll have to see how wifi performs, distance is not significant and I have a Unify AP I can use to compare vs the Google wifi.
Any advise is appreciated, I feel like I’m starting over completely.

@newberger I’d go with a pfsense box any day over the Google router, unless you want their 2 gbps service that only runs with their hardware last time I looked. Google used to frequently update their router and blow away my port forwards and other things. They now support bring you own router so you just set your WAN to request IP via DHCP and you’re golden. Regardless of size of your home, pfsense is a smart pick.

Yeah I would expect at or very close to the same performance with a 3100 unless you run a number of packages. But in that case it's not really comparable with Google's router.
Of course I may be slightly biased.

Thanks for those comments. As I said, I don't have any information on how the google router compares to the other commercial routers, so your responses are very helpful. I did look at the 3100 specs and I presume it should do ok with the 1GB. @gabacho4 I did see that my apartment does support the 'bring your own router' :)

@newberger glad to hear it. Even before it was officially supported you just had to create a VLAN 2 with a QOS of 3 on your WAN port and you were set. I was so happy to get rid of their network box. Hope you enjoy the service and your pfsense experience.
