@nikolaosinlight said in *NEW* 6100 Crashed 4 Times in < 12 hours (likely Dual WAN):

      cannot load balance

FWIW Netgate has docs on load balancing.

Aside from that I second @mer's suggestions.

Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to reboot, or more depending on packages, and device or disk speed.

        Hi @mer and @steveits,

Thank You for the reply and the suggestions.

I just set this < 12 hours ago so I haven't really looked to disable 1 of the WAN interfaces but I really need to have Dual WAN - either LB'd or fail-over - so not sure what I am going to gain from disabling 1 of them.

Did the logs not point to any particular issue? I am not proficient to read them.... :-(

One thing I should point out is that I was playing with Traffic Shaper prior and the UI did seem to get to a broken page near the end of the Wizard (Multiple LAN VLAN) - not sure if it was a crash b/c it was like the 1st time - but when hitting "Next" the page did not come. Traffic Shaper configuration was since removed and turned off when I cam across Gateway Groups.

The 6100 just crashed again. 10 years of stable Internet and can't go more than 6 hours with router crashing and being disconnected from Internet for ~5 minute chunks!!!

Temperature is within 38 - 42 degrees. Never any hotter than that.

        Ideas anyone? Thanks!

ASIDE: @steveits, I'll start a separate thread on the Dual WAN load balancing.

Also should point out that I have not added any additional packages.

Pretty vanilla install, firewall, routing, simple VLAN for ISP, DHCP, DNS entries.

I'd like to help get to the bottom of this and improve the product but it is very discouraging that a router just all of a sudden crashes... hope I didn't make a mistake buying this Netgate 6100 MAX....

@nikolaosinlight There are some Netgate folks who post here frequently so hopefully one may have more insight. Haven't used a 6100 yet but we have 15-20 or so other models at various clients and for our use.

The thought of using just one WAN was to eliminate the Dual WAN, since your subject seems to imply you thought that was the cause. There's nothing specific about dual WAN breaking things, lots here use it.

Were you using CBQ shaping? There is a bug on that to be fixed in 22.01, looks like on VLANs since you mentioned VLAN?

              I'm sorry about that. 😞

You should open a ticket with us if you haven't already:
              https://go.netgate.com/
I don't see anything from your email in the ticket system, but you may have used something different.
That crash looks like it may be hardware related. We need to review the status file to confirm it.

              Steve

                Thanks @SteveITS. Appreciate your help!

                @stephenw10,

I called sales and we do not have a support contract but they asked me to send an email to support@netgate.com. I just sent an email with 2 crash dumps.

Not sure what is going to make me happier here... we waited several weeks for the first Netgate 6100 MAX's to arrive... a hardware issue would make me feel better I cringe at what it would take to replace this... but we launch a major site this weekend and that is now not going to happen.

Is there someone I can reach out to directly or will they reach out to me via email.

I reviewed your ticket and left some notes there. I think we will need to swap that out for you.
Support should be in contact with you shortly.

                    Hi @stephenw10

So I re-installed the firmware (I tell you console access is not trivial to get all setup with drivers and gnu screen etc.) and it lasted 1/2 a day and crashed again :-(

Yes, I did receive RMA approval, our business resides in Canada, so I need to ship to Austin, TX at our cost and through customs and entire process I am looking at what 2+ weeks to replace what is essentially a DOA unit.

I don't know what notes you are referring to. My first experience with Netgate and pfsense has been and continues to unfortunately be a horrible experience.

                      I'm very sorry about that.
Looking at your ticket though we are paying for shipping. You should receive a shipping label shortly.
The notes I added were internal referring our support guys to the troubleshooting already done here.

                        Thank You for that information.

Is there a possibility to cross-ship. The unit is effectively useless. I cannot use it... resell it or anything else... and shipping and waiting for customs is a huge business impact. We bought this to take advantage of a fibre line using the SFP+ port for a service we planned on launching this weekend.

I would appreciate it if Netgate can ship the unit overnight AIR "immediately" and I will definitely get this defective unit in the hands of courier ASAP today after I receive the label.
