New 6100 Crashes
-
Yes, mine is a Max. How did you contact support to get a replacement unit.

@stephenw10 Thank you, after posting I received the info. Thank you for your help.

@louiannucci
Just received my replacement unit and set up last night and the 1st 12 hours this time are issue free (vs. the last time I had 6-8 crashes by now).I had tried a re-install of firmware and no dice so while YMMV it didn't help in my instance. I also had backed up the config but didn't want to take any chances and redid everything from scratch on the replacement unit.
Hope your issues get resolved too....

@stephenw10 I don't know if my 6100 MAX crashed or what but earlier today LAN subnets seemed to freeze completely. I pulled the power plug out and put it back and after booting everything seems to be ok. I've had it less than week and configured just basic firewall with pfBlockerNG.
Is there something wrong with 6100 MAX and what can I do if it happens again?

Do you see a crash report on the dash after you logged back in?
If it happens again connect to the serial console and see if it's still responding there. And if it is try to ping out from the console to hosts on WAN and LAN.
I would connect to the serial console now so you know how it is expected to respond normally.

@stephenw10 I did not examine the dash in detail after booting, only had a quick look, but didn't notice anything peculiar. How would it appear in the dash? I'll connect to the console tomorrow.

@pfsjap
When my initial NetGate 6100 MAX would crash it would take about 5 minutes before end-to-end it came completely back online and WIFI was re-established. Apparently gathering the crash dumps can take some time not to mention the reboot itself will take some time.I was replying when @stephenw10 responded. The key as Stephen pointed out is getting that crash dump and it will be visible in the dash board when the unit reboots.
Now, it is possible that your unit simply freezes which is another story and as Stephen points out the Console is something you want to look at but first make sure you wait long enough for the issue to get captured if it is not freezing.
So far my replacement unit has not crashed at all in 4.5 days so there is hope if yours is having a similar issue. IDK if there was a bad batch or something. Time will tell I guess.

There will be an alert shown and large banner across the top. It's quite hard to miss.
-
@stephenw10 Ok, there definitely wasn't a crash report.
-
@nikolaosinlight Ok, I might have interrupted the crash dump gathering. Thank you.
