What would cause one computer to take a while to reconnect to WiFi after coming out of sleep when using pfSense + Unifi switch and AP but not with a UDM?

      I have a Windows 10 laptop.

A few months ago I was running pfSense + Unifi switch + Unifi AP. Whenever I brought my laptop out of sleep it would take a few moments (like 10-30 seconds) to reconnect to the wi-fi. I thought something was wrong with the laptop but it was low priority and didn't look into it.

My pfsense box broke so I replaced it with a UDM (not the pro). Around the same time, my laptop stopped having the problem. It no longer took time for the wifi to reconnect when I brought it out of sleep. I just assumed some driver or system update fixed the issue.

I hate Unifi routing/FW so I replaced it with a new pfSense box. As soon as I got back to pfSense my laptop started having the same issue.

So I assume it has something to do with pfSense but I am not sure what.

I only have one laptop. Everything else is either hardwired or doesn't go to sleep.

      What could be the problem?

Is it actually the wifi connecting or is that 30s until you appear to have connectivity?

        pfSense cannot affect wifi linking.

I would be looking at IPv6. If pfSense is handing out v6 IPs but there isn't actually v6 connectivity there will be a delay until it falls back to v4.

It shouldn't be trying IPv6 if it's not available. For it to be available, a router advertisement has to be received, providing network info. I also wondered if he was referring to the WiFi link or something beyond. For example, on IPv4, a DHCP server might be slow to respond.

          I haven't lost my mind. It's around here...somewhere...

            30s until wifi connectivity.

Got it. I will check the Unifi AP. It's strange I didn't have this issue when I was using the Unifi UDM with the same setup.

I have IPv6 disabled across the board. I will confirm.
