Hi
Need some help with setting up new pfsense on a new Qotom Q878GE 8 port pc with Intel I211 network chips. PF ver 2.5.2When I get to the assign interfaces process in the boot setup, it finds all the igbX interfaces but if I select auto dection, it cant detect the link. same if I try to manually assign. it lets me assign, but there is no link.
I previously had a XG7100 in place that was connected to the ISP ONT with 2 WAN ports. The LAN is connected to a Unifi switch. All was working fine until the pfsense box died. I quickly replaced it with a basic ASUS consumer router and all ok as well. But now with the Qotom, pfsense cant recognise the network ports.
I installed windows 10 and it detects all the ports and all work fine. Just tried OPNsesnse and it also detected the LAN/WAN no issue. So something to do with pfsense and these ports?
Where do I start to find out why it wont detect the ports?
Thanks

The difficulty with manual assignments is you have to know how the interface names relate to the labels written on the box.
I just guess. The same order would be nice. With the hardware I use it is in reverse order.
So to work it out just assign using what you think it probably is, then move around the Network cables till it works. That will tell you how it is actually numbered
Then if you don't like how you have assigned the interfaces, just redo the assignment with your new knowledge.

How are you checking the link status? No link LEDs on the ports?
Run
ifconfig -a
at the console after connecting a cable and see which NIC shows as media connected.Steve

Thanks for that command. would have been helpful. I was just pinging the LAN port from a Windows PC on the network.
The port lights were flashing, but no network connection. In the end, I got it to work and all was good. I can't really say what I did apart from trying a few times and other magic.
Thanks

Ha. Sometimes that can help.
