@r-rebergen I may be wrong; however, my interpretation is that the "Plus" is only available to those with Netgate appliances.

Yeah that's the case at launch but the roadmap allows for paid upgrades and free homelab licenses on white box hardware. Just when is the Q the OP wants to know.

This is what Netgate wrote in January:

            1. Can I get pfSense Plus for my own hardware or virtual machine?
Today, pfSense Plus 21.02 is only available on Netgate appliances, AWS, and Azure platforms.
We plan to make pfSense Plus available for use on 3rd party hardware and select virtual machines by June 2021, if not sooner.
There will be a no charge path for home and lab use and a chargeable version for commercial use.

So… it is June 2021 I would like to upgrade to Plus on my own hardware. Hope Netgate is going to respond here and let us know what’s in store for us.

@r-rebergen It doesn't look like June now - in this reddit post, "It is planned to have whitebox installs available for pfSense Plus end of summer/early fall tentatively."

Thanks, this is what I was looking for. Not happy with that delay, but it is still on the roadmap…

Yes, it has taken longer than we had originally hoped to get all the pieces in place but it will happen.

@stephenw10 Is there an update on this?
I am willing to upgrade to PFsense+ using my own hardware, even wanting to pay for it. Hope it will be possible in the month of September 💪

Not yet I'm afraid. You should be able to upgrade to it from CE directly when it is available though.

Testing of that process is happening currently. I would say we are near, certainly nearer, depending on the results of the testing. Impossible to be any more definitive at this stage.

@r-rebergen As soon as it is available an announcement will be made.
Presently it's being tested, along with the next releases of both CE and Plus.

Posting here to show my interest in a license upgrade for my own hardware. I prefer to run a bit more robust systems than offered by NetGate, but want to have the access to plus performance and features, as well as help contribute to the community.

As soon as the upgrade is ready, barring insane pricing, I'm ready to upgrade. Please let me know when that is possible.
