LIMITER BANDWIDTH PER IP
-
Hi, i'm try limit bandwidth per ip, i create the limiter example "test" in Firewall – Traffic Shaper -- Limiters and i add Bandwidth= 20 Kbit/s when i try downlad a file, the speed is 100 KB/s but the navegation is unstable.
In my ule firewall i create a alias call "marketing" and in rules i have in from "marketing" to "any" and pipe "test (donwload)" and "none" in upload. Please tell me how i can make that my users dowload to 120 Kb and can navigate not problems.
NOTE: When I change the limiter called "test" in Firewall - Traffic Shaper - Bandwidth limiting and added in = 120 Kbit / s, the active members can download files at 700 KB / s

try using the captive portal instead. You can set it transparently so users do not need to login.
You can then assign a bandwidth limit globally (applies to each user that logs in) or you can set bandwidth limits on a per ip/mac basis if you want to customise users.I have found this to be much more effective to limit each users bandwidth rather than limit the bandwidth on an interface which is then split between the number of active users on that interface.

Not sure what unstable means in this context.

I don't know what you are doing because there is no upload/download in the rule settings. For limiters there are In and Out. This is from the perspective of the interface you are placing the rules on so for a LAN interface, In is "upload" from the user's perspective and Out is "download."
Make a limiter called PerUserUpload. Set the bandwidth to how fast you want each limited IP address to be able to upload. Set a mask of Source addresses and mask bits of 32.
Make a limiter called PerUserDownload. Set the bandwidth to how fast you want each limited IP address to be able to download. Set a mask of Destination addresses and mask bits of 32.
On the LAN firewall rule that passes internet traffic, set In / Out to PerUserUpload / PerUserDownload.
And you're done. This will only apply to new firewall states so if you do not see the results you expect, flush states in Diagnostics > States.

Hi Derelict, if i want each one group of users of "marketing" download to 150Kb, as it could do?
