Hi!
yesterday i updated my pfsense and now i keep getting these error messages, is there a way to get rid of them?
im kind of a newbie to pfsense, i have been using it for several years but it has always worked flawless for me, so i havent really learned much about the programming stuff, anyway here is the log:

Oh my goodness! Your system is way out of date. There is not even a 32-bit pfSense image available anymore.
You need to save off your config under DIAGNOSTICS > BACKUP/RESTORE, then do a fresh install using the latest 2.5.2 CE image. You can then attempt to restore your old config into the new pfSense installation. You can download the latest pfSense CE (Community Edition) here: https://www.pfsense.org/download/.
You will need to have 64-bit capable hardware as well. If your hardware is not 64-bit capable, then it's time to replace it with something more modern. Whatever type of update you attempted, it was not successful and has left you with a corrupted system. It looks like some things were updated, but others were not. Thus the missing library errors.
pfSense is now at version 2.5.2 (and about to go to 2.6.0 any day now), and the underlying FreeBSD operating system is now at 12.2/STABLE and about to go to 12.3/STABLE (with the release of 2.6.0 pfSense).

@bmeeks If this is an ALIX board, or other 32-bit only board, they won't be able to upgrade past 2.3.5.

Or use packages.. Time to get a new box.. I mean there were couple years of warning that 32bit was going away.
-
thank you all for your answers, so i guess that i have to get new hardware,
do you have any suggestions of a new box, i need it to be as cheap as possible, do you have any good ideas?
and if i make a backup on this pfsense router i have now, can this be restored in the new box without any problem?
i have alot of setting in my old box and a open vpn connection that i spent a couple of weeks to get working.best regards
-
@tjabas What specs do you need.. What is your internet speed? What is the actual budget? Even ballpark.. Your cheap as possible is prob different than what I would consider cheap for my networks firewall/router ;) There is 200, and then there is 2k.. If your on a serious cramped budget, there is always old hardware off ebay that can be had really cheap, etc.
There shouldn't be any issues moving up from your config. Moving to different hardware can be problematic, different nic names, etc.
But if you have the old config.xml - all the settings are there that could be reloaded even if a bit of tweaking to account for differences in the hardware.
2.3 and 32 bit support went away well over 3 years ago. And there was warnings that was going to happen 2 years before that.

@johnpoz
thanks for your answer, well mainly i use it to run openvpn from, i often use it to download movies and files,
i found this one, and it seems like i can get it with pfsense installed, im a bit unsure which size of ram and ssd i should choose.https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001794025490.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.4dfb5ef8eobkPR&algo_pvid=682ebfb9-dbdf-4832-bb9a-d74af5387b26&algo_exp_id=682ebfb9-dbdf-4832-bb9a-d74af5387b26-0&pdp_ext_f=%7B%22sku_id%22%3A%2212000017595169103%22%7D&pdp_pi=-1%3B2695.54%3B-1%3B-1%40salePrice%3BSEK%3Bsearch-mainSearch

They are not suppose to do that.. @stephenw10
If that is your price range why not actually get a netgate box?
https://shop.netgate.com/products/1100-pfsense -
i have looked at that NETGATE 1100 PFSENSE+ SECURITY GATEWAY, but i have read that its not that powerful to handle openvpn torrenting without problem, but i might be wrong?
what do you think?
-
@tjabas As to torrenting through a sg1100.. I can not say.. I don't torrent through my home connection.. And if I did I have a sg4860..
Can tell you one thing - prob handles it better than your antiquated 32bit alix box ;)
So if your happy with your current performance - I don't see how a 1100 could be worse..

Indeed they are not. But even if they do you should definitely reinstall from a known source anyway.
What hardware are you actually using currently? The ALIX board looks like speculation.
It could be you can just re-install on what you have already.Steve
-
do you think that i can make a backup of my system on this old pfsense and use it on this new netgate 1100?
i have alot of portforwarding and as i wrote erlier, a openvpn server.
can this be restored without problems?
-
@tjabas again yes - but moving from hardware X with nics say realtek with names like re0 and re1 to new hardware with intel igb0 and igb1, etc. wouldn't magically work - you would need to do a bit of editing on the config, etc. etc..
Also as @stephenw10 mentions what exact hardware are you running on? For it to be only 32bit it would have to be quite old. Maybe just the 32 bit version was installed, but you could run the current 64 bit pfsense on it?
-
Yup, you can definitely re-use the config you just might need to make some changes before importing depending on the hardware.

thank you for your answer, so im thinking of buying the Netgate 1100, but im a bit afraid that its a bit small in the specs, and its quite expensive, but i guess that is what these things costs.
im also thinking of this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001794025490.html
i dont know which one is the best.
-
I mean... I'm not going to tell you to buy something fro some copyright/license infringing company in China. I declare bias here.
What hardware are you using now?
I assume it is working sufficiently apart from the very old install?
