    Would MBT-2220 --> SG-1100 be an upgrade?

      I have an MBT-2220 running 2.4.4. It's been fine with our ~20 users and 20/20 Mbps AT&T service, while serving up 2 site-to-site IPSec and 1 site-to-site OpenVPN tunnel. I haven't worried about WAN failover because our ancient building loses AC power more often than we lose WAN connectivity 🤦

      But we're going to move to a new building soon, and there I will have the option for much faster AT&T service, potentially up to 500/500, but with no SLA. It's a much newer building, too, so the AC power should be much more reliable.

      I also have an SG-1100 lying around unused, that has 2.4.4. installed on it now, and a prompt to upgrade to 21.x.x.

      I was thinking it might be nice to switch to the SG-1100 so that I could use the OPT port for WAN failover, since I have a CradlePoint MBR1400 lying around with a TMobile cellular modem installed.

      But would that be an upgrade in performance/capacity? Does 21.x.x finally include hardware crypto acceleration for the SG-1100? Or does it not matter at my speeds/loads?

      Thanks!

        No that wouldn't be an upgrade, the MBT-2220 will perform better on that connection with a single WAN.
        You could potentially add a VLAN capable switch if you need dual WAN.

          Thanks for the rapid reply. At what line speed(s) would the performance difference be noticeable?

            Hmm, it's been a while since I tested the MBT-2220 but as a rough guess I would say above 400Mbps you will see differences. That will be compounded if you have packages running.

              @stephenw10

              Thanks! We'll probably start out at 100/100, with no packages running other than the VPN tunnels, and those typically get used when there's no one in the building anyway, so the overall load will be low.

              So it might be worth trying, especially if I can switch back to the MBT-2220 if I see problems.

              Would you mind taking a look at my other thread about this?

              Thanks!

                @thewaterbug I have a friend with a bare MBT-2220 running 2.6 on 500Mbit sym fiber and we're not seeing any missing speed -- but we haven't really pressed it too hard.
