Carp master slave how to update config.

Hello all
I use pfsense on some routers and use the carp failover function.

Now my colleage always administer the device thtough the virtual Lan ip!
Is this adviceable or need we to use the masters Lan ip to administer the device.

I can think of the situation that when the nmaster is down and you use the virtual ip that you are configuring the slave, and when the master comes up the changes are not being synced to the master!
