Crazy DMZ Port Behavior.
-
I have a pfSense router/computer running with my LAN on one port and a DMZ network on another. The LAN port is off an Intel Pro/1000 card with the other port of this card my WAN input. The DMZ port is off the Realtek port of the system motherboard. This DMZ port feeds an ASUS wireless router with most DMZ devices running off the WiFi with a SmartThing HUB running directly via a CAT5 cable.
My LAN has run with 100% uptime with no issues whatsoever. Occasionally I have problems with some devices running off the DMZ port. Recently my SmartThing hub reported as being offline, as have a few of the other DMZ WiFi devices. A number of my cameras on DMZ WiFi continued to operate just fine. I have no idea why some DMZ devices drop offline and some DMZ devices stay online.
On rebooting my pfSense router everything starts working just fine.
Any idea what might be going on here? I have read that the Realtek ports are questionable but this has only started happening recently and I've been running this pfSense box for years.

If you hit issues with Realtek NICs it's usually all or nothing. You will often see watchdog timeout errors in the system logs. It doesn't seem like you're hitting that because some devices still work.
So try to determine exactly what is failing.
Are you able to ping the devices?
Do they still have an IP address even?
Is it a DNS issue?Steve

@stephenw10 Steve, thanks for the input. I guess I'll have to wait for things to go south and your suggestions.
