Can't boot liveCD with LSI fusion-MPT SCSI
-
Hi guys,
I am trying to boot 1.2 liveCD on a IBM server, which has a LSI fusion-MPT SCSI installed. But booting hung after CD-ROM and floppy has been detected. I am sure the booting hung when it load SCSI device.
After I disable SCSI from BIOS, liveCD can boot regularly.
How can I fix this?
Thanks a lot
Shawn

No one help? The current version 1.2 based on FreeBSD 6.3, which is support LSI 1030 SCSI with mpt(4) driver, why it doesn't work?
Same time, I tried m0n0wall based on FreeBSD 6.2, it works, but m0n0wall doesn't have the feature I want…
Help please!

The official pfSense 1.2 release was based on a FreeBSD version earlier than FreeBSD 6.3.
The testing kits for version 1.2.1 are based on FreeBSD 7.0 which has considerably more up to date hardware support than the FreeBSD used used in the official 1.2 kit. However the testing kits have had some problems over the last few days and I don't yet know if the problems have been fixed. I downloaded and installed the 1.2.1 kit named pfsense-20080820-2336.iso.gz and it has worked for me. (But since I don't have any SCSI controllers that might not be of great interest to you.)
http://blog.pfsense.org/?p=207 has a link to the download area for the 1.2.1 kits.
Can you post the last few lines displayed on the console before the hang? There is sometimes a noticeable pause in the startup at certain stages and sometimes if you are inclined to impatience it can seem like a hang.

I even tried the 1.3a version, doesn't work, looks BTX loader can't go on:
CD Loader 1.2
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Starting the BTX loaderBTX loader 1.00 BTX version is 1.01
Console: internal video/keyboad
BIOS CD is cd0
BIOS drive A: is disk0Then stop forever.
The good boot like m0n0wall will go on and display like: BIOS drive C: is disk….....Any clue?

Google for FreeBSD BTX boot scsi shows a history of people having trouble doing a FreeBSD install with SCSI drives in the system and the problem appears to be in BTX.
I suggest you disable your SCSI controller, add an IDE drive to the system and attempt to install onto the IDE drive.
