      Hi all.

      I have a Netgate SG-3100 but it's been spotty so I want to replace with Dell Optiplex. I get service from Comcast with their cable modem/router and have a static ip address. I copied the wan settings to the Optiplex. I spoofed the mac address. Everything appears to be fine but I'm not getting internet. I think the modem/router has to bridge to the Optiplex. I saw an option for this in the Comcast modem/router settings but it's not currently bridged. Do I need to call Comcast up to get it bridged to a new Pfsense appliance?

        Was it bridged to the 3100 previously? Nothing should need to be changed from the previous setup if you spoofed the MAC.

          @stephenw10 I'm honestly not sure. I took over the setup from a previous company. I assume that it needs to be bridged since it's a static ip. The modem/router is an XB3.

          I was wondering if there is a guide to starting from scratch on this process that anybody could recommend?

              @stephenw10 I had to end up just using the modem/router for now at the location. I would prefer to start from scratch. I don't use anything other than a basic lan so it's more about inputting the correct settings for the wan portion of the Pfsense setup. I need to know if I need to contact Comcast to bridge the modem.

                Probably only comcast can answer that for sure. If you're able to though I would just try it. They probably still pass the static lease via DHCP so I would leave the pfSense WAN configured for DHCP, set bridge mode in the modem and see what happens.

                  @stephenw10 What was interesting is when I logged into the Comcast modem it wasn't bridged in the settings. Someone mentioned it was something that needed to be done from Comcast end. Does that make sense?

                    Well if it's not possible from the modem interface then they would have to do it. Have you tried enabling it?

                      @stephenw10 I did at the time. It didn't make any difference. From what I understand it's not a true bridge and Comcast will have to bridge. I guess I will need to call them. I just wanted to make sure I had all the info I needed before I did.
