Netgate SG-4860 Fan Replacement

@aligator638 For a quick fix I have trick that works on most fans. Pull the label off of the fan, if you see the shaft, use a toothpick to put either 3 in 1 oil or car motor oil on the shaft. About 1 drop is plenty. Spin the fan by hand changing the angle of the fan to work the oil around the shaft until it turns freely. Replace the label. If the motor in not burned out when you apply power it will run again. Sometime this fix works for years, sometimes weeks.
The fix work less well on 30 and 40 mm fans. I have an 80 mm that is 4 years in and spinning.A new fan is best...

So I took it down and found that it was a netgate branded ng-fs2758 fan on the CPU. However a google of ng-fs2758 give me absolutely nothing. A measurement on it gives me 2x2x1/4. So a 50x50x6 mm fan. Having a hard time finding anything close. Anyone have any ideas? Can I buy replacement parts from Netgate?

We had to source that fansink made for us especially to fit the enclosure. It was a lot more difficult than you might think.
But the fan is a standard 4 wire PWM connection. It's 50x50x10mm. Fixing holes at 40x40 centers. It should be possible to source a replacement.
You might also email our sales guys to check on any replacement stock we might have.

If all else fails and you have the space and do not mind it being ugly, a USB powered 120MM fan blowing on top of the case with some clearance keeps it relatively cool and quiet even at low RPM (34C in a fairly warm rack here). Powered by the device's own USB port. I've done that on a couple fanless devices that were getting a bit toasty when sandwiched among other hot lab gear.
Note that isn't any kind of official endorsement or recommendation, and it's an EOL device, so take that with a grain of salt.

@jefstrongman Wondering how you did convert a 2 wires to 4 wires PWM ? Because after searching the only ref I could find for this fan was 2 wires. @netgate did you have this fan made especially for you ?

I don't have all the details but I know we spent some significant time sourcing the complete fan and heatsink.
The fan itself is not particularly unusual. Anything with the same dimensions should work there.You should (though I have not tried) be able to fit a 2 wire fan if you use the correct pins but it will just run at full speed continually. The black and red wires there are 0 and 12V.

@stephenw10 Hello indeed, but since the router is staying in the lounge, I reckon PWM is a must for me, it is not used at 100% and is mostly silent except during summer months. Would you happen to be able to get the full story about this fan? In the past, there were some 2 wires fans that were in fact PWM without the extra wires, soldering an extra 2 wires would bring them up to the standard. If this is the case this would be an easy mod. I searched all the internet and could not find a fan fan with the same specs and PWM.

Hmm, doesn't seem that rare. This looks to meet the spec for example. You need it available in France I'm guessing?
