pfsense 2.6.0 over heating after upgrade
-
Hi,
We have been using pfsense for a long time. It was working fine. But after the upgrade to 2.6.0 it starts heating. For 2 weeks it is working fine without any issues. After that, it is got freezes due to overheating. could you please help me to fix the issues -
How hot is it running?
Why do you think it's overheating?
What hardware are you running?
What processes are running and using significant CPU (the only reason it would be hotter)?

Hi Stephen,The firewall got Hanged. So I tried to login into it, but no response from the firewall device. So I can't the exact temperature. But while touching I felt it was unusual. Initially, we thought it was a device issue. So we have tried the alternative device. Still, it had the same device.
It is running on i3/8GB RAM/SSD Disk.
The major services we are using are Freeradius, OpenVPN, and Snort. others are default services.
The only heavy service I'm using is a snort. nothing more.
Could you help me sort out it..?

Before it hangs what temperature is it reporting on the dashboard? Enable Coretemp in Sys > Adv > Misc: 'Thermal Sensors' if you have not already.
What CPU usage is shown on the dashboard?

I'm not sure what is the temperature before it hangs. During that firewall does not respond to web or console connections. I've to do hard reboot during that time
Thermal Sensor status was "None" already. So now I've changed to intel

Could that be a result of "pcscd" running wild?

That could cause it to 'hang' of it exhausts all memory. It wouldn't cause it to run hot though, pcscd doesn't use any significant CPU.
