ARP Binding

What is the benefit of ARP binding?  I see it as an option when setting up reserved IP address (MAC:IP binding).

Just want to add to this question :)

pfsense lan ip is 192.168.2.1

How can I assign static ip to my workstation using the 192.168.2.xx range?  It kept telling that I need to assign ip address that is outside the pool, can someone explain in layman's term please?  :) newbie here.
