      Hi, is it possible to connect a monitor to the unit so that I can see the console? Assuming that the USB is for a keyboard?

      Or should I just SSH in?

        @prtonguy77 you can for sure actually console in, or yeah just ssh in. Appliances meant as routers don't normally have an actual monitor connection.

          @prtonguy77 https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/netgate-4100/connect-to-console.html :)

          Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
          When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

            Exactly - I normally just ssh, but sometimes the console comes in handy. Like watching an upgrade.. Which just did the other day.

            You can see here the connection is via console

              I agree with @johnpoz and @SteveITS on the console cable.
              As root, the following command works nicely on a FreeBSD system:
              tip ucom1 -115200

                To be clear, there is no VGA/HDMI output on the 4100 or 6100.
