      Hello,

Since updating to 22.05 my 3100 CPU usage is sitting consistently around 80%, whereas historically it was under 40%. I'm very much a learning amateur when it comes to networking and firewalls, so I was hoping to get some guidance on what I could do to lower the CPU usage.

I'm running Snort, pfBlockerNG, and OpenVPN.

I've tried rebooting, however the CPU ramps up to 80% shortly after reboot.

If I cannot get the usage down, how long is it sustainable? Should I be concerned?

      Thank you!

@bcmguy There's a note in the pfBlockerNG channel as well as the Reddit page about removing and reinstalling the package. You might want to investigate that.

Thank you - patch applied and we'll see how it goes! The reinstall of pfBlocker didn't fix it, but hopefully the patch shows results over the long term.

            Thank you for the guidance!

              Hi,

just FYI: I am running nearly same configuration, CPU load is usually between 10 and 20%.
Never seen a high CPU load here.
But VPN connections are rather rarely at my site. Usually I am the onliest VPN user when I am off-site 😊 .

              Regards

@bcmguy - I removed the devl version and installed the regular version of pfBlocker. Seems to have done the trick. I too was seeing 99% CPU and about 73C temps. Running about 10-15 percent CPU now.

Thanks for the post. Helped me out greatly!

@jts2045 There's a patch specifically for the 22.05 issues for DEVEL, no need to downgrade that I am aware of.
