Backup route - Disable route if Gateway down
-
Hello to all,
Is there a way to create backup routes, or to disable a static route if its gateway down?
My goal here is to create an alternative path to my LAN network in case of a line failure. -
I'm still struggling with this issue.
I think it's a very basic network task but I just lack the knowledge… -

No and No.
What are you trying to accomplish? An alternative path to the LAN from where? How?
If you need routes to change, and you can't use policy routing, then you'll probably need a routing protocol such as OSPF or BGP involved.

I'm trying to change routes based on their Gateway status.
The issue is with the returned path. It seems that the route back to the source IP will be from the static routes table and from the originated interface.
So I figured that if I'll be able to manipulate the route table I'll be able to accomplish that.
The idea that I have in mind is the equivalent to Cisco "track". In Cisco I can create a route that will only be active if it's tracking object is up.If there is no option to disable or change routes based on the Gateway status, Is there maybe a way to trigger a command that will be send to the pfsense via ssh that will disable the route when the Gateway down is triggered?
Kind regards,

everything is possible, the source is available. no such option exists.
as jimp said: run a routing protocol. that takes 5 minutes, what you are asking will take much more time, effort & money
