@jarhead zte mu5001 5g modem, with ethernet, usb
external antenna connectors and built in battery backup.
Wokrs nicely with pf
Also supports bridge mode. Will get you a public ip if your carrier offers one.
Otherwise you will get cgnat ipYou don't need a public ip for voip, unless you host the voice server
-
@jarhead Yes, that's what I discovered, sadly.
-
@netblues That's an option despite been pricey and I host my own voip server so needs to use a carrier that offers public IP. Verizon claimed they will give their modem free and could be available in my ares by Christmas. Hopefully, the ZTE price will fall by Christmas for an option.
-
@nollipfsense Keep hoping, but I doubt you will ever get a public ip from verizon unless there is a way to pay a premium price for that.

We do public IP's on Verizon using Cradlepoint routers and commercial accounts.. and yes it was a one time charge when we did them last.. $300 if memory serves. Not sure if it is available on their home equipment however..

@chpalmer You can get public ip's but is usually only available on enterprise/ business accounts and often comes with a hefty price tag too, as you already said.
In other cases there is ipv6 connectivity but everything is firewalled and usually there is no way to be exempted.
Come to thing about it, if it wasn't firewalled then every smartphone would be exposed to internet attacks.
And we all know how well these devices AREN'T patched. -
@chpalmer Great info, thank you!
-
@netblues Disappoint news yet what you said makes sense.

@dobby_ I am a Mikrotik fan and use the new RB450x2 to manage my LAN with pfSense as edge (WAN). I'll research what you presented (Tailscale) as it sounds interesting, thank you for sharing. Discovered this about new package coming: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg_jIPVcioY
