I have been using the pfSense email notifications for a really long time without issue. I have a Gmail email configured in Advanced > Notifications > Email correctly; after all, it worked for such a very long time. I just noticed that I stopped receiving pfSense emails from this Gmail account. I haven't changed anything and I clicked the "Test SMTP Settings" button and received the following error message:

Could not send the message to <user>@gmail.com -- Error: PLAIN authentication failure [SMTP: Invalid response code received from server (code: 535, response: 5.7.8 Username and Password not accepted. Learn more at 5.7.8 https://support.google.com/mail/?p=BadCredentials n123-20020a37bd81000000b006a3325fd985sm4545968qkf.13 - gsmtp)]

I do remember receiving an email from the Google that stated something to the effect of losing access to some third-party apps or losing access to apps that are using less secure sign-in technology. Anyone have any ideas why I may be receiving this message and how to fix it? Thank you.

You may want to take a look at setting up "App Passwords" in your Google account. Then you will need to update the password used in your email notifications setup.

@newuser2pfsense you need to create a app password. They finally turned off less secure feature.

Enabled 2FA and configured the app password. Entered the app password into the Notification E-Mail auth password field. It now works. Thanks for the direction. I appreciate it.
