XG-2758 / 22.05: Firmware Update fails

Hi *,
we're running a set of XG-2758 with 22.05-RELEASE. I tried to update the firmware with the Netgate Firmware Upgrade package. When opening the package it correctly proposes the update (Current Firmware Version 01.00.00.09 / Latest Firmware Version 01.00.00.18) but starting the update yields:
Failed to read flash data, exiting ...
Updating flashing ...I tried the same thing on the shell with the same error; the other machine has a newer firmware but fails with the same error message.
Is there any known workaround/fix for this?

Have you opened a ticket with us yet? https://www.netgate.com/tac-support-requestLet me see if there are any options here other than a temporary downgrade.....

No, I didn't open a ticket - actually, I'm not even sure if our support subscription is still active since the devices are already a bit older.

You don't need support to ask about firmware images or coreboot updates like that.
If we can't find any other way you will need the 2.4.4p3 image to run the update.

@stephenw10 I see. The only reason for the attempted update was because of the 10G-paket-errors (other thread ...); if that's not the reason, I probably might just wait until the update is fixed.
I will open a ticket for the firmware, thanks for letting me know that I don't need a contract for that! :-)

The Coreboot update is unlikely to fix those errors. There is nothing in it that was a specific fix for that.

I see - good to know, thanks! Then this issue is not urgent and I will update whenever the package is fixed, I guess.

Out of interest did you fully power cycle that unit after trying to upgrade it? The XG-2758 requires that to boot with the new Coreboot version. That's a different issue to the noted bug though.

No, I only rebooted it. You mean it wrote the flash memory but just wasn't able to verify it? That sounds extremly dangerous to me since that could corrupt the flash ...?

It's very unlikely. There was a much older bug that presented like that: https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/8047
It was fixed long ago though and showed a different error:Incorrect flash image file size. Failed to update OEM section, exiting ...Steve
