Has anyone looked at offering Chrony as an alternative or replacement for ntpd?

It's GNU. It could possibly be created as a package, but it cannot be legally included with the base installation of PFSense.

I've never looked at Chrony to be honest.
We had our eye on ntimed as its development progressed but it's been stalled for some time now.

Overall, Chrony is actually quite nice. Shame about the license.
